ABOUT NATHAN PENCE

Nathan Pence is a Los Angeles-based producer, composer, arranger, bassist, and educator. He received his BA and Masters in Jazz Performance at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Growing up in the music scene in St. Louis, he performed upright bass professionally starting at the age of 14, including an international tour with Brian Owens. In high school, Nathan was trained in the prestigious JazzU program, including the elite Jazz St. Louis All-Stars ensemble. During his years at Temple, he performed in every major jazz venue on the East Coast and toured with the Terell Stafford Quintet.

Nathan then spent his post-collegiate years in Philadelphia performing, writing, and recording under the mentorship of industry legend Eric Wortham (Adele, Jill Scott, Jazmine Sullivan). He moved to Los Angeles in 2023 to deepen his ties to the music industry and pursue his own artistic endeavors in production and performance. He’s since co-produced for and performed and recorded on electric bass with artists like Seal and Michael McDonald. Nathan Pence continues to bring what the industry has deemed the “Sauce” to stages and recording studios all around the greater Los Angeles area.
